We are looking for a Business Applications Software Developer to join our nimble, fast-paced, & effective team. At Q-Lab, Software Developers perform a wide range of duties. You will be involved in business analysis and requirements definition, software development, and project management. It’s common to lend your opinions to the CFO and COO one day, only to be coding the solution in SQL and .NET the following day.

Software Developer’s Scope of Responsibility:

 

  • Analyzes business problems and suggests ways of applying software solutions to solve them.
  • Produces software for web, database, and client server environments. Also produces Q-Lab’s firmware, which controls the brain of our weathering testers.
  • Uses Microsoft Visual Studio (Winforms, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, VB .NET, C#) to develop front-ends and business logic.
  • Uses Microsoft SQL Server to design, modify, and write business logic for databases.
  • Uses Crystal Reports and SSRS Reporting Services to develop reports.
  • Uses Attolic (an Eclipse variant) and C to develop firmware.
  • Follows Q-Lab’s standard development practices and techniques.
  • Works on front office (e.g. Sales, Repair, Marketing), back office (e.g. Accounting, Purchasing, Order Desk) and LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) software.
  • Writes business requirements and technical specification documents.

Responsibilities include – but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting accelerated weathering lab instruments or test equipment and test mechanical mechanisms and electronic circuitry for “root cause” failures.
  • Perform hands-on repair for malfunctioning lab instruments or test equipment, and tests assembly for conformance, in accordance to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically, with some international travel, 50% of the time annually, to provide repair support to our Customers. This will include being away for 1 to 3 days a week or more when required.  Company van will be provided since the majority of the visits are within driving distances.
  • Provide the customer with phone and email recommendations to resolve lab instrument issues and or follow up with on-going issues with the customer. This may include, but is not limited to; sending replacement parts, referring the information to the main home office in the US for further guidance, or performing an on-site resolution.

Desired Qualifications – Education/Experience

  • Recognised Electrical or Mechanical Qualification with apprenticeship and 5 years work experience
  • Work experience with technical equipment preferably in a laboratory setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competent to read and interpret documents, instructions and manuals
  • Diplomacy and tact in reporting NCE (non-conforming events) to management – with urgency
  • English is the required language – additional languages helpful
  • Highly proficient computer skills – Windows environment and Microsoft applications and relevant CRM systems
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to move from one activity to another with a sense of urgency

Physical Demands:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete shipping documentation including required shipment forms
  • Follow proper shipping protocols including proper weighing, sticker application and metering

Q-Lab is currently seeking a Mechanical Assembler. Reporting to our Manufacturing Supervisor, this position builds the mechanical components of our testers for shipping worldwide. Although this position is currently 1st shift, employees may be required to work 2nd shift.

We are looking for an Embedded Firmware Engineer to play a key role in new product development and existing product support. Reporting to the Software Development Manager, the successful candidate will enhance, troubleshoot, research, and resolve embedded software challenges on Q-Lab’s custom designed controller boards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing software to work with Q-Lab testers, devices, sensors, and other peripherals.
  • Engaging in all phases of development, including concept, design, documentation, prototype, test and manufacturing.
  • Writing touchscreen user interface software.
  • Developing control systems algorithms to improve control system performance.
  • Troubleshooting low level controller/software related problems.
  • Writing test instructions, test reports, and engineering change notices.
  • Open-minded and willing to adopt Q-Lab’s software development strategy.
  • Recommending improvements to Q-Lab’s software development process.
  • Providing technical assistance to the engineering, purchasing, service, sales, marketing, and production departments.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering or Software Development, or has equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledgeable with common software development practices and the C programming language.
  • Knowledgeable with common embedded software development IDEs (integrated development environments) and debuggers (e.g. Segger J-Link).
  • Knowledge of communication protocols is a plus (e.g. I2c, SPI).
  • Knowledge of utilizing an oscilloscope for troubleshooting/data collection is a plus.
  • Strong customer-service orientation. Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
